Annual Solo Recital: SHAKUHACHI
RONNIE NYOGETSU REISHIN SELDIN
Ronnie Nyogetsu Reishin Seldin's annual solo shakuhachi recital at Tenri
Cultural Institute.
He studied shakuhachi, Japanese bamboo flute) in Kyoto, Japan with
Kurahashi Yodo, who was a disciple of Jin Nyodo. There in 1975,
he received the name Nyogetsu and a teaching certificate at the level of
Jun Shi-han (assistant master) in the Kinko school of shakuhachi.
Later he was awarded the rank of Shi-han (Master) in 1978 and in 1980,
he received his Dai Shi-han (Grand Master's license), in April 2001 a Koku-An
Dai-Shihan (Grand Master's license at the level of Kyu-Dan, or 9th level)
from Japan's Living National Treasure in shakuhachi, Aoki
Reibo. He was also given the name Reishin (Heart/Mind of the Bell) to go
along with it. Nyogetsu is the first non-Japanese to receive this level
of the shakuhachi rank.

An evening of improvisational music by Argentine avant-garde guitarist,
Fernando KABUSACKI, and two leading experimental musicians from Japan,
Yuji KATSUI (violin) and Seiichi YAMAMOTO (guitar).
For one night in New York, these three meet again to give the city a preview
of their experimental interactions before embarking on the trio’s
debut concert in Argentina.

27th Annual Jin Nyodo Memorial Offering Kenso-Kai
Ronnie Nyogetsu Reishin Seldin and members of Kisuian Shakuhachi Dojo
A memorial tribute to one of the most famous shakuhachi (Japanese bamboo
flute) masters in the A.T. White Memorial Amphitheater, Jin Nyodo. The
concert will be performed by Ronnie Nyogetsu Seldin and members of Kisuian
Shakuhachi Dojo. They will play Honkyoku (Zen music) in his memory at the
Brooklyn Botanical Garden.
